The Fishing
This area is relatively unknown as a fising destination, I think because it is in the shadow of Cancun. It just doesn't get fished much. The lagoon is protected on all sides from large waves by the peninsula and the reefs. Ther are some islands north of the lagoon that has excellent fishing as well. The fishing is mostly done from the boat. If you are staying ion Isla Blanca you will get a full 8 hour plus day. If you are driving in from Cancun you will get about a 7 hour day in. You may talk to your guide when you arrive to set up the ideal time. It may be early or later depending on the tides and the species you want to catch most. You can always get out of the worst of the wind because there are lots of mangroe lined channels that contain tarpon and snook. The tarpon range from 5- 70 pounds while snook up to 25 pounds can be found. During the summer months large migratory tarpon are found in these waters. During this time you can enjoy the same kind of tarpon fishing that Holbox is famous for!

"One of the best days flyfishing for snooty tarpon and permit. We saw all species of fish, my guide put me on three tarpon and speckled trout. I'll be back" - Dave Nicholas, Novemebr 18, 2004 "Wow, What a time!! Enique was our guide in the mangroves and worked hard. We stirred up Barracuda and snook. Enrique was very good with me as a beginning fly fisher. Excellent!! Great time with stories to share. Armando truly made us feel welcome and arranged everything! -Teresa and Chuck Geurts, November 28, 2004
