The Resort
Journeys End was first founded as a diving and vacation resort. They have recently realized they are also in the middle of the best fishing that Belize has to offer. This means a resort that was built for vacationers that were not fly fishers. You get all the amenities that you would expect from any resort of this caliber: great food, great rooms, and a great facility. You get full use of all the stuff here which includes: kayaks, canoes, sailboards, sailboats, tennis, pool, hot tub and volleyball. Add to that that the extra excursions that are available and you have one great vacation. The fly fishing fanatics can rest assured that the fishing program here is all they would expect as well. We have some of the best guides in Belize and I wouldn't be promoting this place if it weren't so!
If you want to fish and you need a vacation that's more than just fishing this may just convince your spouse that you are not such a selfish good for nothing fly fishing addict after all.
The rooms are all large, air-conditioned with a full bathroom, as well a coffee maker, hairdryer and mini-fridge for your convenience. Most can be equipped with two double beds or a king bed. The electricity is compatible with ours here in the US so all your camcorders, hairdryers and the like will work. Even though there are no cars on the island we still have reliable phone service. There is even a satellite TV at the bar if you really need it and internet access as well.
There are 4 types of rooms that may fit you and your groups needs: The Pool/Garden Cabanas; The Ocean Front Cabanas; The Lagoon Rooms; and the Lagoon suites . The resort property is about 10 acres that starts on the oceanside ( the reef side on the east) and goes back 200 yards or so to the lagoon on the west. There are 10 ocean front cabanas, 10 garden cabanas, 10 pool cabanas,10 lagoon rooms and 5 lagoon suites.
The Pool and Garden cabanas are the most popular option for the fishing packages and are slightly larger than the ocean front cabanas. They can be set up with a king bed (pictured to the left) or 2 double beds. The ocean cabanas are set up as King only. Other than that the pool, Garden and oceanfront cabanas are decorated and appointed the same. the same. The ocean cabanas are about 200 feet from the ocean with nothing but a few palm trees and beach in between. The garden cabanas are set in a semicircle just behind the ocean cabanas with tropical gardens in the middle. The pool cabanas are circling the pool a little father west towards the lagoon. You get so much time on the ocean during the day that you seem to spend very little time in your room looking at the view!

The least expensive option are the newly renovated Lagoon rooms. These rooms are actually the largest and are directly the lagoon on the west side of Ambergris Caye. The picture windows open up to a deck with great sunset views of the Lagoon. They can be set up as a single king size bed (pictured to the right - notice the sunset view over the balcony) or 2 double beds.
The lagoon bathrooms are renovated as well with great tile work and new showers. There are 5 lagoon side suites which consist of a living room with a kitchenette attached to a standard lagoon room bedroom and bath. The Standard lagoon rooms are the least expensive option here at Journeys End and a great value on the island while the suites offer more space at about the same price as the ocean front cabanas. Many people are now requesting the lagoon rooms because of their size and design.
There is a full restaurant and two bars on the property for your use. The packages include three meals a day and you have the freedom to order anything from the menu at the Luna restaurant. The restaurant is an open air seating area covered with a weatherproof thatched palapa. There are daily specials and a standard menu for your pleasure. Deserts, appetizers, salads, seafood, beef, pork and chicken are available daily. Click Here to see a sample menu for a day! This is a step up from a fishing lodge to say the least! You will be pampered while you are visiting Journeys End. There is a full staff that has only one thing in mind, your vacation. The staff is loyal and dedicated to insure you get into the Belizean state of mind as quickly as possible and may teach you how to hold on to it a little longer when you return home.
The water at the resort is all purified with a desalinization plant right on the property. All the food is prepared using American standards and the food and beverage director is fully trained in food safety issues. You can drink all the water and ice at the resort without hesitation.
The two bars ( three if the pool bar is open) are the smiling Toucan and La Habana. The Smiling Toucan is an outdoor bar with a thatched roof and La Habana is indoors and features fine wines and cigars from around the world. There is an internet terminal in the La Habana bar with wireless access for your laptop. The Serenity spa is near the lagoon rooms for your relaxation.
Most health issues that affect some areas of Belize and other Central American countries are not a factor at Journeys End. The CDC lists several cautions when visiting the country. Most of these risks are solved with our water purification and our American Standard of sanitation issues. Please take their cautions seriously when you visit the rest of Central America. The only issue we can't control completely is Malaria. There is a small risk wherever you find mosquitoes. There are pills available to prevent the contraction of Malaria but please consult a doctor as the risk here is very small.
